1c Modified Bed Bath

Supplies: 4 washcloths 2 towels gown bath blanket bath basin soap soiled linen container

Must successfully demonstrate 16/19 steps

Explain procedure, speaking clearly, slowly, and directly while maintaining a face-to-face interaction

Provide 360° privacy with a curtain, screen, or door.

Remove gown and place it directly in the soiled linen container while ensuring client’s chest and body is covered

Before washing, check water temperature (self and client) for safety and comfort

Don clean gloves before washing client

Required Step: Beginning with eyes, wash eyes with west washcloth (no soap), using a different part of the washcloth for each stroke, washing inner aspect to outer aspect and then proceed to wash the entire face

Dry face with a dry washcloth

Expose one arm and place a cloth towel underneath the arm from above the shoulder to below the fingertips

Apply soap to wet washcloth

Wash fingernails, fingers, hand, arm, and underarm always washing toward the body

Rinse and then dry the fingers, hand, arm and underarm

Move the client’s body gently and naturally, avoiding force and overextension of limbs and joints

Put a clean gown on the client, tying the upper ties

Empty, rinse, and dry the basin

Place the basin in the designated dirty supply area

Dispose of used linen into soiled linen container

Avoid contact between candidate clothing and used linens

Properly remove and dispose of gloves and immediately wash hands

Ensure signaling device is within reach and the bed is in the lowest horizontal position
