16c Hand Hygiene

Supplies: soap paper towels sink trash can

Must successfully demonstrate 8/10 steps

Address client by name & introduce self to client by name

Turn on water (hot & cold) at sink

Wet hands and wrists thoroughly

Apply soap to hands

Required Step: Lather all surfaces of wrists, hands, and fingers, producing friction for at least 20 seconds, keeping hands lower than elbows and fingertips down

Clean fingernails by rubbing tips against the palm of the opposite hand

Required Step: Rinse all surfaces of wrists, hands, and fingers, producing friction for at least 20 seconds, keeping hands lower than elbows and fingertips down

Starting at the fingertips, use a clean, dry paper towel(s) to dry all surfaces of fingers, hands, and wrists and then dispose of the paper towel(s) in the waste container

Use a clean, dry paper towel(s) to turn off the faucet and then dispose of the paper towel(s) in the waste container or use foot/knee control to turn off faucet

Do not touch the inside of the sink at any time

Suggested Time: 3 minutes
