41c Apply One Knee-high Elastic Stocking

Supplies: knee-high elastic stocking

Must successfully demonstrate 8/10 steps

Explain procedure, speaking clearly, slowly, and directly, maintaining a face-to-face interaction

Provide 360° privacy with a curtain, screen, or door.

Client is in supine position while elastic stocking is applied

Turn stocking inside out to the heel

Place the foot of the stocking over the client’s toes, foot, and heel

Pull the top of the stocking over the foot, heel, and leg

Move the client’s foot and leg gently and naturally, avoiding force and over-exertion of limbs and joints

Required Step: Finish the procedure with no twists or wrinkles and the heel of the stocking, if present, is over the heel and opening in toe area, if present, is over or under the client’s toe area If using a manikin, candidate may state the stocking needs to be wrinkle-free

Ensure signaling device is within reach and bed is in the lowest horizontal position

After completing skill, wash hands
