17c Donning & Removing PPE (gown & gloves)


Supplies: gown gloves designated container with red biohazard bag step stool (if too short to don without gown touching floor)

Must successfully demonstrate 12/14 steps

Pick up gown and unfold it

Facing the gown’s back opening, place arms through each sleeve

Fasten the neck opening

Secure the gown at the waist, ensuring the back of your clothing is covered as much as possible

Put on gloves

Cuffs of gloves must overlap cuffs of gown

Required Step: Before removing gown, with one gloved hand, grasp the other glove at the palm and remove the glove

Required Step: Slip ungloved fingers underneath the cuff of the remaining glove at the wrist and remove the glove turning it inside out as it is removed

Dispose of gloves in designated waste container without contaminating self

After removing gloves, unfasten gown at the waist and then the neck

After removing gloves, remove the gown without touching the outside of the gown

While removing the gown, hold the gown away from your body while keeping the gown off the floor, turning the gown inward and keeping it inside out

Dispose of the gown in the designated container without contaminating self

After completing skill, wash hands

Suggested Time: 3 minutes
