Nurse Aide 1 Module AA Vocabulary Flash Cards: Temperature

Module AA:  Temperature

Afebrile

Without a fever

Body Temperature

How much heat is in the body, balanced the heat created by the body and heat lost to the environment

Centigrade

Metric scale used to measure temperature, expressed in degrees 37°C = 98.6°F

Fahrenheit

Scale used to measure temperature, expressed in degrees 37°C = 98.6°F

Febrile

Fever, temperature above normal limits

Fever

Febrile, an elevated temperature

Objective Data

Information that can be verified by the senses, facts - not opinions

Pain

Whatever the person says it is

Subjective Data

Information provided by the person that cannot necessarily be verified by the senses

Thermometer

Device used to check temperature

Tympanic Thermometer

Device used to check a person’s temperature in the ear

VS (Vital Signs)

Measurement of temperature, pulse, respiration, and blood pressure (TPR&BP) that show how well vital organs are functioning.  Sometimes pain is considered a VS as well.
