Student Survive 2 Thrive: Fun Art Assignment

Art is an amazing subject full of endless possibilities! We can learn quite a bit about many topics such as history, culture, literature, math, and even a deeper understanding of ourselves through art. Many people find a happy place of less stress through artful endeavors, so I cannot say enough great things about art.

I created this ongoing art portfolio assignment as I was homeschooling my daughter; however, it can easily be adapted for private school, public school, or for someone who would simply like to create art and display them in digital format while reflecting on each one. This assignment worked well for my daughter as she reflected on each art piece that she created, and our family enjoyed her presentation at the end of the school year. We used Google slides for the document.

Depending on the age and abilities of the person doing this assignment, you might create the slide show pages for the student to plug in information or you might have the student to create the slideshow from scratch.

When presenting the art portfolio, you might opt to present all of the pages or make a copy of the portfolio and delete all slides except the photos of the art pieces or simply choose the favorite pieces to present.

This art portfolio assignment is quite flexible to allow for various time frames, abilities, and preferences.

Digital Art Portfolio Assignment

This is your opportunity to make your own original digital art portfolio featuring the art you make this school year!

Create a blank slide show and file it under Art.

As you create your own art designs each week, add pages to the document:

On one page...

Take a screenshot of the artwork and enlarge it cover as much of the page as possible.
Include the name of your artwork if applicable.

On the next page page...

Include your artwork's personal story with information such as:

How you made it
Why you chose the various items, mediums, colors, etc.
What or who inspired you to create this art piece
What worked particularly well
What you might have done differently with the added knowledge that you now have
What you learned and anything else you feel is important about this art piece

Be prepared to present your artwork and/or slides at the end of each quarter, semester, or year.
