Math Flash Cards: Multiply by 10 (10 is the 2nd Factor)

These math flash cards feature multiplying by ten. This is one of the easiest sets to learn! A good rule of thumb to remember is that your answer will always end in a zero when multiplying by 10.

Tips for Multiplying by 10
  • The easiest way to multiply by ten is to write down the number that you are multiplying by 10 and add a zero to the end of that number. For example, when multiplying 7 by 10, write down 7 and then add a 0 to the end of that number for an answer of 70. When multiplying 12 by 10, write down 12 and then add a 0 to the end of that number for an answer of 120.
  • You may also skip count by tens when multiplying by ten. With this method, skip count by 10s the number of times that is equal to the number you are multiplying by 10. For example, when multiplying 4 by 10, count by 10s four times...10 - 20 - 30 - 40 to get an answer of 40 or when multiplying 5 by 10, count by 10s five times...10 - 20 - 30 - 40 - 50 for an answer of 50.
  • Another way to multiply by ten is to add the other number to itself ten times. For example, when multiplying 3 by 10, imagine having ten 3s or 3 + 3 + 3 + 3 + 3 + 3 + 3 + 3 + 3 + 3 = 30. Here's another example: when multiplying 9 by 10, imagine having ten 9s or 9 + 9 + 9 + 9 + 9 + 9 + 9 + 9 + 9 = 90. Be aware that it may be easy to lose count with this method.
