Math Flash Cards: Multiply by 7 (7 is the 2nd Factor)

These math flash cards feature multiplying by 7. For many people, this set is particularly challenging because seven is a prime number and you cannot double a smaller number to get the correct answer.

Tips for Multiplying by 7
  • One way to multiply by seven is to add the other number to itself five times. For example, when multiplying 3 by 7, imagine having seven 3s or 3 + 3 + 3 + 3 + 3 + 3 + 3 = 21. Here's another example: when multiplying 6 by 7, imagine having seven 6s or 6 + 6 + 6 + 6 + 6 + 6 + 6 = 42.
  • It may be easier to skip count by 7 when multiplying by seven. Simply skip count by 7s the number of times that is equal to the number you are multiplying by five. For example, when multiplying 4 by 7, count by 7s four times...7 - 14 - 21 - 28 - 35 to get an answer of 35 or when multiplying 7 by 7, count by 7s seven times...7 - 14 - 21 - 28 - 35 - 42 - 49 for an answer of 49.
  • If you are having a hard time multiplying by 7, consider looking at the other number and multiply using the tips for multiplying the other number. For example, if you are multiplying 7 and 6, you might multiply 7 by 3 = 21 and then double it to get 42.
