These math flash cards feature multiplying numbers zero through twelve by six. Multiplying by six, seven, and eight are often challenging for many people, but if you are learning them in order, you've already learned many of the lower numbers and perhaps even 10s and 11s, so many of these may be familiar already.
Tips for Multiplying by 6
- One way to multiply by six is to add the other number to itself six times. For example, when multiplying 3 by 6, imagine having six 3s or 3 + 3 + 3 + 3 + 3 + 3 = 18. Here's another example: when multiplying 5 by 6, imagine having six 5s or 5 + 5 + 5 + 5 + 5 + 5 = 30.
- Some people find it easier to skip count by 6 when multiplying by six. Simply skip count by 6s the number of times that is equal to the number you are multiplying by five. For example, when multiplying 4 by 6, count by 6s four times...6 - 12 - 18 - 24 to get an answer of 24 or when multiplying 7 by 6, count by 6s seven times...6 - 12 - 18 - 24 - 30 - 36 - 42 for an answer of 42.
- Another way to multiply by six is to multiply the other number by 3 and then double that answer. For example, to determine the answer for 8 X 6, multiply 8 X 3 = 24 and then double 24 = 48. Here is another example of this method: to determine the answer for 7 X 6, multiply 7 X 3 = 21 and then double 21 = 42.
