Math Flash Cards: Multiply by 5 (5 is the 2nd Factor)

These math flash cards feature multiplying by 5. I personally think it is a little easier to learn multiplying by 10s and by 5s than to multiply by 3s and 4s. It is helpful to remember than any time we multiply a number by 5, the answer will end in either 0 or 5.

Tips for Multiplying by 5
  • One way to multiply by five is to add the other number to itself five times. For example, when multiplying 4 by 5, imagine having five 4s or 4 + 4 + 4 + 4 + 4 = 20. Here's another example: when multiplying 7 by 5, imagine having five 7s or 7 + 7 + 7 + 7 + 7 = 35.
  • Many people find it easier to skip count by 5 when multiplying by five. Simply skip count by 5s the number of times that is equal to the number you are multiplying by five. For example, when multiplying 2 by 5, count by 5s two times...5 - 10 to get an answer of 10 or when multiplying 6 by 5, count by 5s six times...5 - 10 - 15 - 20 - 25 - 30 for an answer of 30.
