Math Flash Cards: Multiply by 12 (12 is the 2nd Factor)

These math flash cards feature multiplying by 12. If you have been learning multiplication tables in order from one through twelve, the good news is that you have already learned all of these except 12 X 12!

Tips for Multiplying by
  • When learning to multiply by 12, it may be helpful to look at the other number and multiply that number by 10 and by 2 and add those two answers together. For example, when multiplying 7 by 12, multiply 7 by 10 to get 70 and then multiply 7 by 2 to get 14. Add 70 and 14 to get an answer of 84. Here is another example: to multiply 9 by 12, multiply 9 by 10 to get 90 and then multiply 9 by 2 to get 18. Add 90 and 18 with a result of 108.
  • Another way to multiply by 12 is to add the other number to itself twelve times. For example, when multiplying two by twelve, imagine having two 12s or 2 + 2 + 2 + 2 + 2 + 2 + 2 + 2 + 2 + 2 + 2 +2 = 24. Here's another example: when multiplying 8 by 12, imagine having 12 8s or 8 + 8 + 8 + 8 + 8 + 8 + 8 + 8 + 8 + 8 + 8 + 8 = 96. It is easy to lose count and takes a good bit of time to multiply by 12 using this method.
  • You may skip count by 12 when multiplying by twelve. Simply skip count by 12s the number of times that is equal to the number you are multiplying by twelve. For example, when multiplying 5 by 12, count by 12s five times...12 - 24 - 36 - 48 - 60 to get an answer of 60. When multiplying 4 by 12, count by 12s four times...12 - 24 - 36 - 48 for an answer of 48.
